I found a great place to paint sun rises close to home at Easton Shopping Mall. The development is not complete, so there are still great views with trees and you can see the sun rise. This was one cold morning. However, being close to civilization, when I was done I knew just where to find hot coffee.

Ohio Field at Dusk

This is a typical view of the land in Ohio at dusk. Flat or rolling fields with a few trees along the field lines. This is the magic hour when pinks permeate the sky and slip into the land.

This was my first published Daily Painting, although not the first Daily Painting that I have painted. This is certainly an interesting project. The plan is to create 100 paintings by the end of February. Wish me good luck. I still have my day job.

Christmas Oreos

I like Oreos. Actually these are Trader Joe's peppermint version and they are good. I used to keep a box of Oreos and Diet Coke on hand in the studio - for emergencies, when paintings go bad. Well, I have dumped that practice, but I did eat some models before this painting was completed.

As I was finishing up this painting, I wondered if I will ever be a realist, probably not, but that is okay. I am just trying to do 100 daily paintings, so I can be a better painter. This is numer 29. No, I won't show you all of them!

Chateau Chantal

This is a plein air painting done at the Chateau Chantal winery in Traverse City, Michigan. I painted this in June while on a painting trip. This was our first full day in Michigan, a day of pure exploration looking for painting sites. This wonderful winery sat on top of a hill with exceptional views. We thoroughly checked out the winery, and then since it was the magic hour we decided to paint. This is looking down the hill on a cherry orchard facing West Traverse Bay.

Empire Dune

This is the Empire Dune at Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan. The original painting I did was done on site in about a 30 mile per hour wind. My big brimmed hat blew off, so I put on my baseball cap and tied in to my head with a bandana. I must have been a site! It was a beautiful day except for that wind blowing - no umbrella in use that day. I had to check my colors by holding a pizza box over my head to create some shade. There were changes I wanted to make in the painting which is the reason for the Daily Painting of Empire Dune.
